Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion weigh up move for £10million striker

The Black Cats are understood to be weighing up a move for the Senegalese forward, who made a big impact in his first season in the Premier League.

Sakho was signed for £3.5million from Metz in the summer of 2014, netting 12 goals in 26 games during Allardyce’s spell in charge at Upton Park.

West Bromwich Albion are also tracking the 6ft 1ins striker, who is reported to be ready for a new challenge.

Allardyce and Sakho didn’t always see eye-to-eye during their time together but he made an instant impact in a Hammers shirt, scoring eight goals in his first 10 games.

Sunderland are looking to bolster their attacking options, with out of contract duo Danny Graham and Steven Fletcher set to be released and Sakho - who has grown frustrated in London - could fit the bill.

The 26-year-old, who scored seven goals in 24 appearances last season, is expected to be among several players allowed to leave West Ham.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan is expecting a busy summer of transfer activity ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium and he is understood to be ready to give Sakho the go-ahead for a summer transfer.

Sakho’s exit could hinge on West Ham signing Toulouse striker Martin Braithwaite - previously linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

The 24-year-old Denmark international scored 12 goals on his way to keeping Toulouse up but he now looks set to pursue his dream of playing in the Premier League.

“We need a 20-goal-a-season striker and that will cost us £25m or £30million. That is where the bulk of the money goes,” said Sullivan

“There might be a few fringe players who we will let go and use that to bring in two or three more players.”
