WASHINGTON and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson will fight to retain her seat at the 2015 election.
She secured the Labour Party nomination after votes in each of the local branches within her constituency, as well as affiliated trade union branches.
They unanimously returned votes of confidence in the MP, who has served the constituency since boundary changes in 2010, and formerly the seat of Gateshead East and Washington West from 2005.
Mrs Hodgson said: “I’m humbled to secure the backing of all my ward parties and affiliated groups to represent Labour at the next election.”
“This has been a difficult few years for my constituents, with living standards squeezed and long-term unemployment rising, and I’ve put my all into being their voice in Westminster and campaigning for their priorities, such as extending the Metro to Washington and stopping the Tories’ unwanted reorganisation of the NHS.”
