COMMUNITY groups in Sunderland and Durham are vying for the right to get their hands on thousands of pounds of funding.
A total of 67 organisations from the area have applied for a NatWest CommunityForce award.
A public vote will now decide which lucky three groups will receive £6,000.
By applying for the awards, charities and projects in the area have become part of an online network to help them attract new volunteers.
NatWest staff will also be getting involved by volunteering as part of the company’s pledge to provide 7,000 days of community volunteering during 2011.
Amanda Grenfell, CEO for NatWest in Sunderland and Durham said: “Giving the community a chance to vote for the winners will ensure that local people will decide on how local funds are invested in local projects.
“CommunityForce is part of our ongoing commitment to support the communities where we live and work, not just by donating funds, but also through volunteering time and expertise.”
