EVENT bosses are hoping to land a top award next week.
Sunderland International Airshow, organised by Sunderland Live, is in the running for Tourism Event of the Year at the North East England Tourism Awards 2013.
Sunderland Live, formed in April 2013, is the team behind festival and chief operating officer Chris Alexander said he was thrilled.
He added: “We have some tough competition from other nominees, including The Ashes and Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham and The Late Shows in Newcastle Gateshead, but it’s fantastic to be in such esteemed company with other prestigious events.
“This year we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Sunderland International Airshow, which was a huge success, attracting over 850,000 people to Roker and Seaburn in July to enjoy live music, family entertainment and spectacular flying displays over the North Sea.”
The North East England Tourism Awards will take place on November 21 and will be hosted by BBC Look North presenter Carol Malia.
Winners will also have the chance to compete nationally against winners from other regions at the Visit England Awards for Excellence next year.
