SAFC’S charity has scored at a glittering awards ceremony.
The Foundation of Light received a string of Highly Commended honours at the inaugural Premier League for Sport (PL4S) Regional Awards held at Middlesbrough’s Riverside stadium.
Foundation of Light volunteer coach Charlotte Rush was highly commended in the Coach of the Year award, for her work with Wearside Wildcats Netball Club.
Georgina McNally, from the charity’s Kicks workshops, and judo coach Kevin Pattison, were also highly commended in the Young Sports Achievement and Special Achievement awards respectively.
Liz Barton-Jones, Foundation of Light’s head of inclusion, said: “It was a fantastic evening and I am delighted we enjoyed a night of success.
“We are immensely proud of our nominees as the hard work and the dedication they have shown to their sport and making the project a success, deserves this recognition.”
Launched in 2009, PL4S increases access to sports other than football.
With the addition of badminton and boxing, Foundation of Light now delivers eight sports as part of the programme, including basketball, judo, golf, netball, table tennis and volleyball.
Each year, the charity helps 42,000 people.
