Reports today have claimed that Sunderland are finally on the verge of landing last season's loanee M'Vila after several weeks of talks with Russian club Rubin Kazan.

It was understood last week that Sunderland had made a breakthrough in the discussions with Kazan, yet David Moyes claimed on Monday that the Black Cats were still looking at other options.

However, the Echo understands that Sunderland do expect M'Vila to return to the Stadium of Light before the transfer window shuts after the French midfielder was a target for Moyes at former club Everton.

Sunderland have been linked with a couple of strikers today, with a move for Anderlecht's Italian international Stefano Okaka far more feasible than Liverpool's Christian Benteke.

Meanwhile, Moyes has been speaking about renewing his rivalry with Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez after the pair spent six years at loggerheads as the respective managers of Everton and Liverpool.

“We’ve had our ups and downs, but I respect him because of what he has done in football," said Moyes.
