The Italy international arrived on loan from the Black Cats last summer, scoring seven goals in 25 Serie A appearances.

And the 30-year-old could be set to extend his stay after agent Furio Valcareggi revealed they are working towards making his Rossoblu stint permanent.

“At the moment we’re in the hands of Sunderland, who gave a very important contract to Emanuele that pulled him away from Juventus,” Valcareggi told ETV.

“But Claudio Fenucci has a lot of respect for my client, as does Donadoni: we’re working with Bologna to make him stay.”

And the promising forward is now targeting three points at Stoke City to round off a good week.

“It’s been a great year for me personally,” said Watmore.

“To get this award is such a nice feeling because it’s from the fans and the fans are the ones you want to impress and you want to go out and please.

“They’ve been great all this season as they always are home and away, and to get that recognition from them means a lot to me because I know how great they are and I’m glad they’ve been pleased with my performances this season.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game at the Britannia Stadium, Watmore said: “It’s a big game for us but every game is massive for us now and we know that.

“We’ve been playing well recently and getting good results so we need to carry that into Stoke, give them a good game and hopefully get the three points.”
