Meanwhile, Sunderland do have an option to buy loanee Javier Manquillo but there is no clause triggering payment after a certain amount of games.

The 22-year-old is on a season-long loan from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and has made seven appearances for Sunderland so far this campaign.

Reports surfaced overnight that Sunderland would be facing a bill of £9.5m if the Spaniard makes 25 appearances for the club this season.
