Vito Mannone: Howler for Bournemouth's opening goal, weak hands couldn't stop Afobe header. Made a couple of saves after that....5/10

Billy Jones: Poor from Jones, struggled defensively and offered little going forward. Should have scored with one header though....5/10

Wes Brown: Benik Afobe had the better of the experienced Sunderland defenders, Brown struggled first half but grew into the game.....5/10

John O'Shea (C): Was beaten too easily by Afobe for the opener, allowed to get the header on target. Saw a first-half header saved. Better after the break....6/10

Patrick van Aanholt: MOM. Scored again! Two in two now for the flying Dutchman and a fine finish. Has been involved in four goals in last four league games. Impressed overall....7/10

Lee Cattermole: Struggled in the centre. Gave the ball away too many times and looked devoid of ideas in possession. Took more control after the break....6/10

Yann M'Vila: Similar to Cattermole, saw more of the ball though. Cherries midfield had far too much space. Improved second half doing the simple things well....6/10

Adam Johnson: Sunderland struggled going forward in the first half, with the midfield struggling to retain possession. Took more responsibility but needed better final ball....6/10

Jeremain Lens: Again in the No 10 role but not as influential as previous games. Struggled with his final ball and didn't link-up well with Defoe....5/10

Fabio Borini: Nice assist for van Aanholt's goal. Divided the Bournemouth defence. Saw a deflected shot saved by Boruc. Far from happy when he was subbed early....5/10

Jermain Defoe: Barely had a kick in the first half. Benik Afobe led the line superbly for Bournemouth up the other end. Service to Defoe was awful.....5/10

Subs:

Duncan Watmore (for Fabio Borini, 66): Struggled to get into the game. Snatched at a lot....5/10
