Southampton secured their biggest ever win in a league match away to Sunderland today – as the Black Cats got back to reality from the high of last week’s impressive win at Crystal Palace.

Here’s how SAFC fans reacted on Twitter after Manolo Gabbiadini’s brace set up a convincing 4-0 win for the Saints.

@darrenord: The fact that the @SunderlandAFC squad will now go on an all expense paid trip to New York shows all that is wrong with our club

@podmundo: Well that was fun watching safc .....said nobody ever

@Rotwurst1: They should take those left in the ground at the end on a trip to New York. It’d be cheaper

@Baggott_15: well lads hope you enjoy the nice trip to New York. you guys really deserve it

@Bodders444: Normal #Safc .. building fans up after last week & then give a performance like that ! I wouldn’t pay anyone of them this week

@Scrivener30: Soton just had to turn up. That was probably the most disappointing SAFC performance I’ve seen. Totally anonymous when so much was on offer

@moyza69: Next time Sunderland win I’m just going to enjoy the win and remain hopeless. It’s a vicious bipolar type cycle. Today was disgusting.

@jlambert55: Southampton just outplayed us tbh. Shambolic defending didn’t help. Funny to see Khazri punch one in though.

@waynecole3: Well at least they get a nice break away from it all in New York! That’ll be nice for them. Catch a basket ball game, theatre, museum

@safc_biker: Well we made a right Sunderland of that, still at least I don’t have to wait up for #motd this week

@carldp1989: The players today have been completely gutless

@sorourkeITV: Analyse that as much as you want. Or just use the phrase “Typical Sunderland”, because that’s all you really need. 0-4 FT

@JamieJoslyn1: Classic Sunderland one step forward last week and two steps back this week, simply not good enough

@irobarmstrong: It’s amazing how bad #SAFC can be. 4-0 against a mid league side who weren’t trying. Pathetic.

@safcmadmike: Mental strength in that team is a disgrace so inconsistent it’s incredible don’t see where there is any passion from players and staff

@Croarky: What does Moyes actually think Pienaar brings to the team? Him, Seb & Gibson in midfield, no wonder they had our life!

@sie_ftm: Lost for words after that, all we gained last week lost this week

@edwards_cavan: Whoever made a football match last 90 minutes clearly wasn’t a Sunderland fan

@BigmoNolan: Well sunderland that’s one way to come crashing back down after the last 2 weeks, absolutely abysmal
