Sunderland performed well for the opening 45 minutes but couldn't sustain that level against the in-form Foxes, who are closing in on the league title.

Here are Richard Mennear's match ratings:

Sunderland: (4-1-4-1)

Vito Mannone: Should have come out to close Vardy down for first goal. Couple of good saves late on but was rounded by Vardy for second Leicester goal....5

DeAndre Yedlin: Good energy and pace from Yedlin down the right flank. Defended well enough....6

Lamine Kone: Was caught out on a couple of occassions with balls over the top in the early stages but grew into the game.....6

Younes Kaboul: Towering performance first half. Won his fair share of tackles and headers. Should have hit the target with a header. Was horribly outpaced for the goal..6

Patrick van Aanholt: Defended well and had a busy afternoon with Mahrez and Simpson to keep in check. Got forward to support Khazri. Left for dead for second goal....6

Jan Kirchhoff: Impressed in the holding role again for Sunderland, with plenty of key interceptions. Passing radar was off first half but improved. MOM...6

Yann M'Vila: Some crunching tackles and a diagonal ball to Khazri first half deserved better. Subbed midway through second half......5

Lee Cattermole (C): Didn't play as far forward as he did against West Brom. Sunderland were tight and compact first half. Could have done more to close down Drinkwater for goal......5

Wahbi Khazri: Sunderland's biggest attacking threat first half. Keen to get at the Foxes defence and workrate superb. Tired and was subbed.....6

Fabio Borini: Was in the wars against Christian Fuchs. The pair had a good tussle and both were booked. Missed too many good chances and was eventually subbed......5

Jermain Defoe: Held his own against Robert Huth. A mis-match but Defoe won some important free-kicks. Didn't pose a goal threat though......5

Subs:

Jack Rodwell (for M'Vila, 68): Missed a great chance from just eight-yards, shooting over the bar. Another costly miss....5

Dame N'Doye (for Khazri, 68): Little impact on proceedings.....5
