TEENAGERS are being urged to sign up to a summer activities programme.
Springboard Sunderland is holding the Summer of a Lifetime programme in a bid to inspire 16 and 17-year-olds from a range of backgrounds to work together.
They will also take on new challenges and engage in their communities.
The group will be organising a wide range of free events over the summer,.
They will include outdoor activities, problem-solving sessions and team-building exercises.
The scheme is part of the National Citizen Service programme.
It aims to help young people develop the skills and attitudes they need to become more engaged with their communities, and become active and responsible citizens.
The initiative works with schools, local authorities, businesses and other neighbourhood groups to create a more “responsible and engaged” society.
Organisers said only a few places are left on the course, on July 2 and 3.
A residential course in the Lake District takes place from July 9 to 13, and in Durham from July 16 to 20.
A three-week community programme will then take place.
