A STUDENT found dead in his halls of residence killed himself after a night out with friends, an inquest heard.

Garen Kyle Ingleby, 20, was found hanging in his flat at The Forge in Pallion on the evening of September 18.

The student, from Saltburn, had been out the previous night with friends, who contacted police and the building’s security staff after he failed to answer the door.

Sunderland assistant coroner David Place heard that there was no third party involved in that the cause of death was asphyxia.

A number of notes were found in a book inside his flat, although the contents were not read out during the inquest.

“I’ve read through the notes and seen a number of pictures,” Mr Place said. “It is very clear from the notes as to Garen’s intentions on this particular day. I understand there is no history of mental illness and there was no medication being taken by Garen for any mental illness.

“I’m satisfied on the evidence that I have seen and read that there is only one real finding available to me and that will be that Garen-Kyle Ingleby killed himself at his home address on September 18, 2014.”
