Striker happy at Sunderland as agent reveals how close he came to joining Inter Milan
Fabio Borini's agent has confirmed the Italian striker was close to joining Inter Milan last summer.
But he insists the 25-year-old Sunderland forward is “content” with life on Wearside ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign and sees “no reason” to return to his homeland.
Borini, whose form in the final weeks of the campaign won him a call-up to an Italy training camp ahead of Euro 2016, signed permanently for the Black Cats from Liverpool last summer.
Speaking to TMW Radio, Borini’s agent Roberto De Fanti confirmed the forward could have signed for Serie A giants Inter Milan.
But his client was keen to stay in England and prove himself in the Premier League.
De Fanti said: “Last year, to tell the truth, Inter came close, but we chose to continue his adventure in the Premier League.
“I think he is content to play for his current club, I see no reason why he should go back to Italy.”
Borini was the subject of interest from several Italian clubs, including Lazio, when he was out-of-favour at Liverpool last summer, prior to his £10million move to Sunderland.
