Stewart Donald on Sunderland move for defender, midfielder and two strikers as Premier League defender linked

Stewart Donald has revealed Sunderland are 'very close' to adding four new players to the squad.

Jack Ross is revamping his squad ahead of the assault on League One with the club closing in on a new defender, midfielder and two strikers.

Progress has been made in the last 24 hours on three of those and one player is set for a medical.

The club's owner has taken to Twitter to confirm that contract talks have been successful with one of the players and the other three are now "very close" too.

Donald is hoping for significant progress before the end of the week and has confirmed he will provide further details on Thursday.

Donald, responding to fans on Twitter, tweeted: "Details Thursday but can't mention names for obvious reasons. We have 4 very close. 1 CB 1 CM 2 Forwards. Contract done on 1 and the other 3 very close.

"Hoping they will be in over next few days and a few players likely to go the other way. Thursday I will update in more detail."

He added: "There is a lot of work and negotiations happening - it is all starting to move now. 99% of rumours are just that.I will give what facts I can Thursday. Just a bit of patience needed."

Meanwhile, reports suggest Sunderland are weighing up a loan move for Wolves youngster Cameron John.

The central defender is only 18 and is coming through the ranks at Premier League new boys Wolves, who could be willing to allow him to leave on loan.

He is yet to make his first-team debut following a move from Southend United.
