POP star Faye Tozer is stepping back in time to bring a film classic to the Sunderland stage.
It’s been announced that the former Steps starlet will perform in Singin’ in the Rain when the musical plays at the Sunderland Empire.
Next January’s run will be extra special for Faye, who is an adopted Mackem after moving to Boldon to live with Sunderland-born husband Michael Smith.
Faye, who will play Lina Lamont, will be joined in the West End Version of the Hollywood classic by Maxwell Caulfield as studio boss R F Simpson.
She said: “I am thrilled to take on the part of Lina Lamont in this classic musical.
“I’ve always adored the Singin’ in the Rain movie and love the glamour and glitz of Hollywood in the 20s, so to get to deliver some of Lina’s absolutely hilarious dialogue live on stage is a dream come true.
“The beautiful costumes I get to wear are a bonus too.
“Having toured around the country both with many theatre productions and of course with Steps, I’m also very excited to play Sunderland with this gorgeous show.”
Maxwell Caulfield, known for his roles in Dynasty and Grease 2, said: “I am beyond thrilled to be hitting the road with Singin’ in the Rain.
“As a huge fan of the original movie, the chance to bring this story to life on stage is something I couldn’t pass up”
Singin’ in the Rain features songs including Make ‘em Laugh, Good Morning, Moses Supposes and Singin’ in the Rain.
The musical is based on the 1952 Hollywood film starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds,
