Staff from a Sunderland hotel have taken part in a Dragon Boat Race to raise money for charity.

Staff at the Marriott Hotel took part in the first ever Dragon Boat Race at Hetton Lyons Country Park, raising £1,000 for The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Organised by the North East Rotary and run by Dragon Boats Events Ltd, the race saw organisations from all over the region go head to head in Chinese-style dragon boats over a 250-metre course.

The Sunderland Marriot ARC team of 20 paddlers and a drummer put their teamwork skills to the test.

All funds raised are being donated to The Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity dedicated to ensuring that teenagers suffering from cancer get the expert treatment and support that they need.

Charlotte Harms, ARC team captain and president, said: “We’re so pleased to have been able to meet our target! The dragon boat race was such a fun experience but also a challenging one and I think we worked really well as a team during the event.

Andrew Glover, general manager at Sunderland Marriott Hotel, said: “The ARC team is an asset to the Sunderland Marriott and demonstrates the fact that we are dedicated to giving what we can to those that may need help.”

“The Teenage Cancer Trust is a fantastic charity that does some amazing work for young people suffering from cancer, so we are pleased to have been able to do our part.”
