Spurs defender in the dark over Sunderland return, as PSG right-back is linked

Sunderland are understood to be open to re-signing last season's loanee Yedlin, if parent club Spurs are prepared to allow the American international leave for either a reasonable sum or on another season-long loan.

Sam Allardyce was unconvinced by Yedlin when he first arrived at Sunderland and targeted a new right-back in the January window, but the 23-year-old improved dramatically during the second half of the campaign in helping the Black Cats to Premier League survival.

However, despite Sunderland's continuing search for a new right-back, Yedlin says he is yet to be made aware of a fresh approach from his temporary employers.

"I haven't heard anything on a deal or anything like that," he told the website of his former club Seattle Sounders.

"It's all up in the air right now. I'm just waiting to see what happens."

Allardyce is understood to be continuing to work on transfers, despite huge uncertainty over whether he will be Sunderland manager next season after holding talks with the FA over the England vacancy earlier this week.

Whether or not Allardyce remains at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland desperately need a new right-back after a proposed move for Inter Milan's Davide Santon collapsed last week.

Reports today have linked with Sunderland with Paris Saint-Germain right-back Youssouf Sabaly, who could be available on loan after spending last season at fellow French side Nantes.
