ACCOLADES are to be given to highlight the hard work of volunteers.
The scheme is being launched by the East Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP) to recognise those who make a significant contribution in the area.
It comes after One Voice Network identified that across County Durham, based on the level of the minimum wage, volunteers contribute approximately £5million worth of voluntary hours per year.
Nomination forms for the awards, which are being backed by East Durham Trust, can be obtained by visiting www.durham.gov.uk/eastdurhamaap
Each nominee will receive a certificate of recognition and 10 volunteers will receive £250 for the organisation they volunteer for.
The closing date for nominations is Monday, November 5.
East Durham AAP is one of 14 set up by Durham County Council in 2009 to help the authority engage with residents.
The ceremony will be held at Shotton Hall, Peterlee, from 3pm on November 9, following the East Durham Trust’s annual meeting.
