YOUNGSTERS can learn how to carve pumpkins at a special Halloween event tomorrow.

Groundwork North East is holding the spooky extravaganza at Elba Park, near Biddick Woods, where there will also be fun activities to get those on the half-term break into the (evil) spirit of things.

The park is on the site of the former Lambton Cokeworks and Colliery and was opened to the public for the first time in 2010.

People can either meet at the Chester Road entrance at 1pm or drop in at the Miner’s Memorial between 1pm and 3.30pm.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is free to the community and Groundwork staff will provide pumpkins and all of the equipment needed.

They will also be on hand to help and run activities.

To book a place contact Andrea Baxter, senior community ranger, on 07587778452, andrea.baxter@groundwork.org.uk.
