Chef Robert Steel, the owner and chef of Little Italy in The Galleries, Washington, is celebrating 30 years in the hospitality business.
With an impressive C.V starting from the Prestigious Michelin Star Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel, on beautiful Lake Ulswater in the Lake District to Buckingham Palace, and to a life on the ocean waves on Cunard’s, QE2, and other cruise liners and then returning to his native north east to open Little Italy North East alongside his brother Charles.
The Steel brothers have built up a first class reputation within the 11 months it has been open.This is a remarkable achievement and a huge culinary success story on Wearside.
The new Little Italy 2 will be opening in August this year. Opening last March, they have already extended due to popularity, and serve a wide variety of pizzas, pastas and paninis, as well as seasonal dishes and hearty All-Day Breakfasts.
Robert prides himself on producing quality, fresh, authentic Italian food like chicken diane, and chicken millanese, with an impressive 10 dishes on the Daily Specials menu which appear on the blackboard each day.
Little Italy can cater for vegetarians too with delicious meals like vegetable ravioli and egg plant parmigiana.
They also do outside catering, and can supply trays of lasagnes which serve up to 24 people as well as pizzas pastas and desserts for any special occasion.
If you have any room left try their signature Award Winning Gelato Italian ice cream which is unique to the area.and comes in various flavours. Also popular with Little Italy customers is their famous home- made hot waffles and baked apple crumble, a true taste sensation you will come back for more.
