A spokesman said: “Calsonic Kansei is committed to manufacturing with pride.”
The firm, which has its headquarters in Japan, has a core business of supplying heat exchangers, heating ventilation and air conditioners, as well as exhaust systems, dashboards and electronic components to the automotive industry.
It operates worldwide and has a site in Washington, two in Sunderland and a warehousing operation in Doxford Park.
The firm employs about 1,400 people at these locations and is “fiercely proud of our region as well as its people,” said a spokesman.
“We are committed to being a socially-responsible corporate citizen that brings value to our shareholders, communities, and team members alike. We take this corporate social responsibility seriously, and it is underpinned by our work with local schools, our apprenticeship programme, supporting Work Discovery Week, as well as our sponsoring of an award for the Best of Wearside Awards.
“For Calsonic Kansei there is no better award for us to sponsor than Community Group, as it celebrates those people whose dedication and hard work makes a real difference to the lives of the people around them in their local community.
“They bring value to their community through doing what they can to improve their region and support the people that live here. This is something that we at CK feel should be celebrated, and we hope to continue to contribute to our local community by recognising their work.”
Judging of this year’s competition has now been held. The next stage is the grand final at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, November 19.
