Speak up and save station

Calling the sensible folk of Sunderland and not our councillors, come on speak up and let us at least save Monkwearmouth Station, not as a museum but as a mainline station for Sunderland.

As Bridge Street is, apparently, to be opened up again for two-way traffic, would it make sense to run a shuttle bus (minimum cost) from this station into the town centre?

At least visitors would then cross the once world famous River Wear and Monkwearmouth Bridge and not be dependent upon the use of an often “out of order” lift to access the town.

They would also not be required to drive along back streets to access the station.

Please, for once, see sense and use this station as it should be.

Note I have used the word town in this letter because I think the word city in this context is ludicrous. Can we compete with Newcastle and Durham? I don’t think so but at least we can do better than at present and present visitors with a better first impression.
