South Shields and Westoe Club set to host sportsman dinner

A long-running sports club in South Tyneside is hosting a charity dinner to raise vital funds.

South Shields and Westoe Club is inviting members of the community to join them on Friday, March 31, for the ‘South Shields and Westoe Senators Sportsman’s Dinner.’

Taking place at the club on Wood Terrace, off Dean Road, in South Shields, the event hopes to raise as much as possible for the rugby club to help with running costs.

Warren Ridley, a member of the rugby committee and manager of the senators team, said he is hopin for a good corwd.

He said: “Traditionally sportsman dinners were just for sportsmen, but this is an mixed event, where everyone is welcome - sporting or otherwise.

“On the night there will be a three course dinner followed by talks from guests speakers John Inverdale - one of the top sports commentators in the country - and Durham and Westoe hooker Ian Parnaby, who has captained the Westoe ruby club is a very accomplished player.

“John only does one sportsman dinner a year, so this year he has chosen to speak for us which is great.”

He added: “If we can raise a couple of thousand pounds that would significantly help the start of the season as it costs a lot of money to run a sports club.”

The evening will start at 7.30pm before speakers take to the stage around 9.30pm to talk about their experiences as a sports commentator and player.

Guests are asked to wear smart collar and tie and tickets are £25 each available from the club.
