THE sister of tragic schoolboy Matthew Hayes has left a heartfelt tribute to her little brother at the scene of the accident where he was hit by a bus.

Rehanna penned the emotional two-page letter after Matthew was killed on Friday as he walked home from Venerable Bede CofE Academy, where he was a pupil.

The 12-year-old had been crossing the road in Ryhope Street just before 3.30pm when he was struck by the Go North East Simplicity bus, just outside Asda.

Here is his sister’s tribute in full: “Matthew.

“Words can’t describe how much I’m missing you.

“I shouldn’t be writing this, it shouldn’t be like this, 12-year-old, my baby brother, it doesn’t seem real.

“I woke up thinking you’d be there, playing on your PlayStation, screaming at me to get out your room, play fighting and running round the house with the Nerf guns.

“I’m physically heartbroken, I’m trying to stay strong for mam and dad but I just can’t get it into my head that you’re gone. I was only with you on Thursday night watching Family Guy and cuddling in bed.

“I’m glad I gave you a hug and a kiss before you went to school on Friday, I could have been a better sister to you and for that I am so, so sorry. I honestly love you more than anything in the world.

“Whenever I was ill you’d always come in and give me a hug but say ‘Don’t give me all your germs’. I don’t know where to put myself, what to do.

“I just need you to come and tell me everything’s alright, but it’s not. I can’t believe this has happened. Why are you not here, you were such a good person. But God only takes the best first and now I know that’s true.

“Hope you have all the PlayStation games you could want up there. I’m proud to say you were my brother, my little brother. I know you’ll be looking down on us. I hope you’re proud of us, we all love you unbelievable amounts.

“Christmas Eve 2000 was the best day of my life when I got you as a little brother and I was allowed to pick the name. Matthew seemed perfect for you. No one’s ever going to forget you, remember that.

“I know you’ll always be with us. I remember when we used to fight over who got to hold you; this shouldn’t be like this.

“RIP baby and sleep tight, we’ll see you soon. I love you so much words cannot describe it. Sending you lots of hugs and kisses.

“Your big sister, Rehanna xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx”
