A Houghton school worker is keeping dry to raise cash for charity.
Kepier academy’s community development and marketing manager, Dave Brennan, is taking part in the Dryathlon event, which means giving up alcohol for a month to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Dave said: “Having seen both my parents die of asbestos-related cancer at quite an early stage of life – they were both in their mid-60s – I decided taking part in Dryathlon would be a good way to help raise funds for a great cause.
“The hardest part so far has been the first weekend, when most of us tend to have a drink to relax.
“However for the whole of this month all I’ll be enjoying is different varieties of flavoured water.”
Colleagues and friends have been very generous in sponsoring Dave and anyone who would like to make a donation to his fund-raising can visit www.justgiving.com/David-Brennan-dryathlete2015.
