Sir Alex Ferguson backs Sam Allardyce for England post - reports
Sir Alex Ferguson will recommend Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce to be the next England manager, according to reports today.
The Sun claim that Ferguson is set to back Allardyce, if asked by FA vice-chairman David Gill, who worked alongside the ex-Manchester United manager at Old Trafford.
Allardyce missed out on the England job in 2006 to Steve McClaren, but there have been claims that he would be interested in succeeding Roy Hodgson.
However, there has also been speculation today that the FA will look to an overseas candidate to replace Hodgson.
The FA are reportedly not impressed by the homegrown candidates available and will consider bringing in a third foreign manager after Fabio Capello and Sven-Goran Eriksson
