A SINGING group with members from Wearside have raised more than £1,000 for forces charity Help the Heroes during performances.

Cabaret group Encore recently performed at the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields.

At the end of each performance, the group went round the audience with collection buckets.

They collected £1,381 for Help For Heroes for injured servicemen and women.

The cash will go towards Phoenix House, a purpose-built recovery centre at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.

Singer John Robinson said: “The members of Encore were very pleased to lend their support to such a worthy cause, and are delighted with the amount raised.

“The cast left the stage at the end of each performance to meet and mingle with the audience, and together with volunteers from H4H, collected donations.”
