Simon Grayson insists he's the right man for the job at Sunderland - and says there aren't too many managers who could do better.

Grayson has faced calls for his head from sections of the Sunderland support after a dreadful start to the season.

The Black Cats are second bottom of the Championship, and face a must-win game tomorrow at home to Bolton Wanderers - the only club below them in the table.

Despite the pressure, Grayson however insists he can turn the situation around.

"Do I think I am the right man for the job? Of course I do," he said. "I am experienced and have been through good and bad times as a manager.

"I can't think of too many other people who are in football at this moment in time who would be in a better position or could do a better job than I am doing at this moment in time.

"I know I need to do things that are better and am working every hour to improve this football club. The players are doing that, it is what we do on the grass."

Grayson was handed the reins in the summer after David Moyes' resignation, and left a steady job at Preston to take on the huge task of reversing Sunderland's fortunes.

So far, he has struggled, but with experience under his belt at difficult clubs like Leeds United and Blackpool, he says he isn't concerned about his future.

"Winning a match for the club is more important than it is for Simon Grayson," he said.

"I have been manager for 12 years, I have been through good times and been sacked a couple of times. I am doing my best for this club, it is always about the bigger picture not personal gain.

"I have improved it in certain areas, I know I need to in other areas. Time helps you get that but I do know we need results for everybody."
