At the June meeting, members of Church View Patient Group, Silksworth, presented Tom Forsyth with a Pocket Watch. Tom has been treasurer for the past 24-plus years but has had to retire from the due to recent health issues. The group felt they really needed to recognise Tom’s long and dedicated service and wished him well for the future.

Silksworth Royal British Legion held a charity collection over the past six months for Sunderland Hospital Neonatal Baby Care Unit. A total of £3,022 was raised and has been handed over to the fund, which was gratefully received. A special thanks to Virgin East Coast, Bions in Sunderland and Chris Morley & Son for their help with the fantastic raffle prizes. Thanks to everyone the support.

Silksworth Miners’ Banner Group is once again organising a trip to Durham Miners’ Gala this Saturday, leaving Silksworth Comrades Club at 7.30am returning at 4.30pm. A meal will be provided for everyone at the British Legion Club. To book your seat on the bus, ring Derek on 0191 5288226 or Peter on 0191 5210872.

There is an oppourtinity to go along to Ryhope Community Centre on Wednesday, July 13, at 11am and meet representatives from local area response services, community police, local councillors and Gentoo. Raise any issues or concerns you may have within the local area.

StBenedict’s Hospice, Ryhope, has a fabulous Bistro Cafe where you can enjoy a range of coffees and other refreshments along with a tasty snack. The Bistro is open to the public so if you are passing please pop in. There is also a little gift shop, all are welcome to pop in.

Ryhope Heritage Group will meet on July 12 in Ryhope Community Centre at 1.30pm. Guest speaker is Sharon Vincent, her subject is Suffragettes. All Welcome. There will be no meeting in August.
