The next Compton Organ Concert in Ryhope Community Centre will be on thisSunday from 2.30pm with Andrew Nix, pictured above, on the console. He last performed at the centre in 2014 alongside Tony Stace. Born in Selby in 1968, by the age of 10 had an interest in electronic organs and by the age of 16, he was playing in local venues. He went into holiday camp entertainment work and was organist/musical director for the ‘Butlins’ organisation. He has played for organ societies countrywide and since 2000 has toured with a Roland Atelier organ, to visit venues which do not have their own. Everyone is welcome.

St Cuthbert’s Church, Ryhope, will be holding a strawberry cream tea this Saturday from 3pm to 5pm with a car wash. Cost will be £2.50. You can buy a ticket or pay at the door. All proceeds will go to St Benedict’s Hospice. Contact Hilary on 523 6432 for more details.

St Paul’s Church, Ryhope, will be holding its garden party in the vicarage garden this Saturday from 11am. There will be lots of stalls, raffle and entertainment.

The recent musical concert held in the Silksworth IM Church was exceptional and a great success. Graham Brown on the keyboard and his talented friends thrilled the audience by singing and playing musical instruments. The concert was followed with afternoon tea which everyone enjoyed. Linda and Peter Machin would like to thank everyone for their support and help to make this possible. A total of £600 was raised in aid of the Nehemiah Educational Project in Ghana.

The Riding Lights Theatre Company presents Roughshod Let Loose, using powerful performance (and a little comic chaos), this Thursday in St Paul’s Church at 7pm. Tickets are £5 and £3 Concessions. To book contact 0191 5237 884.

A new local art group has recently started in Redwood Community Centre, Silksworth every Friday from 10am to 1pm. For more information, ring Sylvia Hurst on 5286470.

An ongoing art exhibition is held in the Silksworth Sports Centre, entrance to the indoor tennis courts, with some paintings for sale.

A large scale healthy lifestyle event, The Road to Rio, is taking place in Barnes Park on Saturday, July 2, encouraging people to try new fun free activities which are available within the local communities. Take a picnic and enjoy a full day out with family and friends. No car parking facilities available.

Ryhope Infant School Academy is holding an early years open evening this Thursday at 5.30pm. You will be able to meet the staff working in Early Years (Nursery and Reception). You can explore the environment including the new studio, and find out about the types of activities that your child may experience.
