Ryhope Heritage Group’s AGM will take place on Tuesday, May 10, in Ryhope Community Centre at 1.30pm. Names will be taken for the trip to Beamish Museum on Tuesday, June 14.
Ryhope Community Forum will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 11am at Ryhope Community Centre. There will be representatives from Northumbria Police, Sunderland City Council, Gentoo and local councillors. Ryhope Pentecostal Church is holding a Ladies’ Fellowship meeting on Saturday at 2pm. The speaker will be Olive Talbot, from Newbiggin by the Sea. Refreshments will be served at the end of the service and all are welcome.
To commemorate 50 years since the closure of Ryhope Colliery, a united service will be held in St Paul’s Church at 3pm on Saturday, November 26, after a march from the community centre, with pupils from all Ryhope schools taking part. An exhibition of mining memorabilia will be open to the public during the Saturday morning. School visits to the exhibition will be held on Friday, November 25. Further details will be published nearer the date of this community event.
