The knitted Christmas Angel outreach project was a great success. More than 8,000 angels were knitted by Methodist Church members and their friends in the Sunderland area, which included Silksworth and Ryhope. A label with a Christian message was attached to each angel and most were left outside, waiting to be found and taken home. Angels were welcomed at Tom Urwin House and Beckwith Mews in Silksworth, but were also left outside the doctor’s surgery, Silksworth Park, community centre, telephone box and bus stops. Mrytle Wild, 94, a member of North Street Methodist Church in Silksworth knitted a staggering 150 angels, as well as 40 jumpers to keep the Malawi children warm this winter.
