Silksworth Heritage Group is holding its Christmas party in Beckwith Mews on Monday, December 7, at 1.30pm.
Silksworth IM Church’s Christmas market was a great success. More than £1,000 was raised for the Nehemiah Project in Ghana, a Christian-based charity the church has supported for many years. The church leaders would sincerely like to thank the many helpers, the stall holders and especially the community for all their support. They are looking forward to hosting the community carol service, accompanied by the Millfield Salvation Army Band, on Wednesday, December 9, at 7.15pm. If you would like to support the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Appeal, any donation of toys for children of all ages will be gratefully received at the service. All are welcome.
The next Compton Organ Concert will be held on Sunday, December 13, at 2.30pm, in Ryhope Community Centre with Stephen Austin at the console. Stephen is from Blackpool and is making a welcome return visit to Ryhope and members are looking forward to a programme of seasonal treats in his ever popular style. Born in 1952, he studied piano and organ from an early age. On leaving school he found work with several organ companies as a demonstrator and then set up a photographic and organ business in Blackpool in 1974. He is a popular organist on the national organ circuit, playing for concerts up and down the country. All are welcome.
One of the prizes in the Your Alice in Sunderland Design competition to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the publication of Alice In Wonderland has been won by 13- year-old Sara Heraoua, from Silksworth, who has been presented with a £100 art supply hamper.
