An emergency food bank has been launched by Churches Together in Silksworth, Ryhope and volunteers from the community for local people in crisis. Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and church leaders identify people in crisis and pass on the contact details. They will then deliver a food parcel to the home of those in need. The food will be donated from supermarket collections, schools, churches, businesses and individuals donating non-perishable, in-date food to the food bank. Donations can be taken to the IM Church, behind Blind Lane, North Street Methodist, St Leonard’s, StMatthew’s, St Paul’s, Ryhope, and StWilfred’s, Doxford. The food bank is currently being co-ordinated and managed by the RevDavid Tolhurst and his wife Natalie, who can be contacted on 0191 523 9932.
