The All England Dry Slope Ski Racing Championships will be held next Saturday and Sunday at the Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski Slope. There will also be a chance for those who have never skied or snowboarded to give it a go on the Saturday for £5. Taster sessions will run throughout the weekend on the nursery slope and will be on the hour between 10am-5pm, lasting an hour each. The championships start at 11am on the Saturday.To book a taster session, call 03330 050153 or turn up on the day.

North Street Methodist Church, Silksworth, is having a barbeque on Monday August 31, at 4pm. All are welcome.

Ryhope Engines Museum is holding a Steaming Bank Holiday weekend between 11am-4pm each day. Admission and car parking is free. All are welcome.

Ryhope Heritage Group will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, September 8, at 1.30pm in the community centre. Sharon Vincent will talk about Hollywood Musicals.

The next Ryhope Mighty Compton Organ concert will be on Sunday, September 6, at 2.30pm in Ryhope Community Centre. David Redfern will be making a welcome return from his home in Belper, Derbyshire, to play a programme to satisfy all tastes. David has been on the countrywide circuit for a number of years and has broadcast many times on radio. Saint Benedict’s Hospice is calling all golfers. You are invited to join its four-ball stableford Golf Challenge at George Washington Golf and Country Club on Friday, September 18. The cost is £220 for a team of four, which includes refreshments on arrival, a two-course hot buffet lunch and a range of fun golf challenges that will make your day one to remember.
