Sick thugs '˜tried to chop horses head off' '“ cob owner devastated by attack

Lloyd, a five-year-old cob, was left with horrific neck injuries after being attacked in a field at Pennywell.

Owner Debra Laing said shocked vets feared the yobs had ‘meant to chop his head off’ after leaving Lloyd just inches from death.

Debra said Lloyd was grazing in a field off St Luke’s Road on Wednesday when the attack happened.

She said: “We go up there twice a day. Me and my husband Andrew go up there to check on things.

“We went up around 10am and he was fine. He was a bit stand-offish, which we thought was odd.”

Her son, Daniel Forse, 16, went back up to the field at 6pm and made the gruesome discovery.

Debra said: “He rang and said ‘You need to come up here straight away. Lloyd’s neck is cut’.

“I just thought it as a little cut, so I took the iodine up with me – but the cut was absolutely massive, so I had to call the emergency vet out.

“Someone has attacked him with such force, they have used an axe or a machete.

“If it had been an inch lower, he would have been dead.

“The vet said they have clearly meant to chop his head off with the force they have used.”

Due to the position of the cut, vets are unable to sew it up, so Lloyd has been moved to another field where his wound is being kept clean and he is on strong mediation, including antibiotics and painkillers.

Northumbria Police officers are now investigating the attack.
