A CHARITY shop is urging other city centre stores to follow in its footsteps and mark the Royal Wedding in style.
Staff and volunteers at the Arthritis Research charity shop in Sunderland’s Blandford Street unveiled their carefully crafted window display with a rather regal theme yesterday.
Hours of effort were put into creating a show-stopping wedding dress covered in Union Jack flags.
And staff worked into the early hours of the morning putting the finishing touches to the display.
Manager Sharon Honour said: “We started coming up with ideas about six weeks ago and started work on it about two weeks later.
“We knew the Royal Wedding was coming up and there didn’t seem to be anything happening in the street so we thought we’d do something to put a bit of colour in the street.
“I’m chuffed to bits with how it looks. It brought tears to my eyes when we unveiled it.”
Now Sharon and other workers hope the Royal Wedding fever will spread to other shops across the city centre.
“Hopefully, other shops will look at what we’ve done and want to do something themselves,” she added.
Arthritis Research is looking for volunteers and donations.
