SHOW your colours!

That’s the message to schools, businesses and community groups who are being encouraged to celebrate Wearside pride ahead of the Sunderland vs Newcastle derby match in a campaign designed to support grassroots sport and education across the North East.

The “Show Your Colours” campaign has been launched by Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC, ahead of the Wear Tyne derby on Sunday 5th April aims to raise funds for the Foundations work across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.

Special raffle tickets will be going on sale in workplaces and schools with prizes including signed Sunderland AFC and Newcastle United FC shirts, as well match tickets to the SAFC v Newcastle derby fixture.

Schools and workplaces are holding Show Your Colours days throughout March with pupils and employees encouraged to wear the strips or colours of their favourite sports teams.

Community group and businesses will be selling Show Your Colours raffle tickets.

Foundation of Light has more than 40,000 children and adult course registrants every year in sport and play, education, world of work, health and wellbeing programmes and, whilst being affiliated to the club, relies on fundraising for 90% of project costs.

Structurally and financially independent of Sunderland AFC, Foundation of Light needs to fundraise 90 per cent to be able to deliver its life-changing programmes across the North East.

Phil King, Foundation of Light’s head of commercial commented: “Show Your Colours campaign is a great opportunity for people to get involved ahead of the Wear-Tyne derby.

“It celebrates the positive spirit of local competition whilst supporting sporting and education programmes in the community.

“Over the past few years we have had a positive response from businesses, community groups and schools that we work with and would love to hear from others interested in getting involved.”

Businesses, community groups, pubs and schools interested in getting involved in the Show Your Colours campaign are encouraged to contact Foundation of Light on 0191 551 5191.
