GET happy at a show that aims to make you smile.
Bring the Happy Live Shows, which will take place at North Shore, St Peter’s, next week, are the culmination of a quirky arts project which asked people across Wearside and South Tyneside to plot happiness on a map.
Over the past four weeks participants have been asked to pinpoint geographic locations they associate with a happy memory.
Each memory was recorded on a large-scale, three-dimensional map and will be used to help create a digital archive of happiness from around the world.
The memories and people’s stories are worked into the Bring the Happy Live shows, which are being performed on February 26, 27 and 28.
The shows will feature six-piece band Hope & Social, and have proved popular when staged elsewhere in the country.
Mark Robinson, former regional director of the Arts Council North East, said: “Bring the Happy in Stockton was one of the best nights I’ve had in a theatre in years. It is a witty and heartfelt combination of story, music and ingenious theatricality.
“It was moving, funny, poignant, raucous and sexy.
“I learnt things about the town where I live, and about the happiest moments of people that live there.
“The stories collected from local people were treated with respect, compassion and genuine warmth.
“I left with a real spring in my step, thinking of happy times, and the people, some long passed, I’d had them with – many of the stories reminded me how close happy was to its opposite in our lives.”
