A trucker has died after the cattle lorry he was driving was involved in a collision with another lorry.

Geoffrey Musgrave, 49, from Shotton Colliery, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on the M74 near Elvanfoot, south of Crawford, Lanarkshire.

He had been driving a Scania cattle float when it was involved in an accident with another Scania articulated vehicle.

The 45-year-old man who had been driving the other truck was uninjured.

Police Scotland said its officers are preparing a report for the procurator fiscal, which will consider the circumstances of the collision, which happened at 1.20pm on Wednesday, May 27.

An inquest into Mr Musgrave’s death was opened and adjourned at the County Durham coroner’s court at Crook Civic Centre today.
