Sex offender moved house without telling police

A sex offender has admitted moving house without notifying the police.

Peter Dawson, 32, was convicted of sexual assault in 2012 and was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for seven years, Sunderland magistrates heard.

However, he failed to tell the authorities that he moved from Stockton Road to Toll Bar Flats, in Ryhope.

Prosecutor Alison Howey said a police officer carried out a sex offenders’ home visit on February 21, to find he was no longer at the address.

She said efforts were made to contact Dawson, without success. He eventually handed himself in to police on March 17.

He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the registration requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Kay Boswell, defending, said: “He’s been extremely stupid, quite honestly.”

Dawson was fined £75 and was told to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
