Severe weather warning issued for North East – gusts could hit 65mph

A WEATHER warning has been issued for the North East as gusts of up to 65mph could hit our region.

The strong winds are expected to arrive on Sunday and continue into Monday.

The sun is set to shine though with temperatures remaining mild with highs in double figures.

A Met Office severe warning has been issued as conditions could “cause danger to life or widespread disruption”.

The warning states: “Gales are expected to affect parts of South-east Scotland and North-east England at times during Sunday and Monday.“Gusts between 55mph and 65mph seem likely over and to the east of hills.

“The public should be aware of the possibility of minor disruption, in particular to road travel.

“An area of low pressure near Iceland will bring strengthening winds to many areas.

“Winds are likely to be particularly gusty over North-eastern parts of the UK from Sunday morning, continuing into much of Monday.

“Travelling conditions may be difficult.”
