Search for men after reports of attempted Sunderland dog theft

Police are appealing for information after reports of men trying to steal dogs in Sunderland.

At 1.15pm today a man challenged two other men in Conway Road, Hylton Castle, over concerns they were attempting to steal dogs.

The men threatened him man and damaged the van he was in before making off in their own van, which was red and green.

The offenders then abandoned their van in Ferryboat Lane and got into a black car. Inquiries are under way to trace the vehicle.

No dogs have been recovered.

Anyone who has seen a red and green van being driven around Hylton Castle either this morning or early afternoon, or has information about the black car, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101, quoting reference 481 250516 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
