Search after distressed woman seen in Whitburn

A Mountain Rescue team was called out after a distressed woman was spotted wandering in Whitburn .

Police received a report of a distressed woman near Whitburn Golf Course at 4.30pm yesterday.

The woman, who appeared to be in a dazed state, was seen on the golf course before walking towards the quarry between Quarry Lane and Lizard Lane, near Lizard Lane Caravan Park.

She was last seen walking in the direction of Quarry Lane, returning to the path and heading towards the nature reserve.

Police attended carried out an extensive search of the area with the assistance of Mountain Rescue , but the woman was not found.

Officers are keen for anyone who may know who this woman is, or who was in the area at the time and may have any information that can help, to get in contact.

The woman was wearing a light coloured dress, black tights with a seam down the back, a hat with a rim around it and a scarf covering her face.

T/Superintendent Sarah Pitt said: "We're obviously very concerned for the welfare of this woman. "e're keen to identify her so we can speak to her and ensure she is OK and are asking for the public's help.

"If anyone was in the area of the quarry and the golf course and thinks they saw the woman or has any other information that can help us identify who she is and where she is now we would urge them to get in contact with us immediately."
