A DRIVER had to be freed by firefighters after his lorry overturned on an East Durham road.

Two fire engines from Seaham and a heavy rescue tender from Bishop Auckland were sent to the accident on the A182, near its junction with the A19, just before 1am today.

Fire crews removed the windscreen of the articulated lorry, which was carrying frozen food, to rescue the driver.

He sustained various injuries, none of them thought to be life-threatening, and was taken to Middlesbrough’s James Cook Hospital by ambulance.
