FIREFIGHTERS gave screen star Brenda Blethyn a warm welcome as she visited their patch to film her hit TV show.
The actress is the lead in ITV detective drama Vera and its cast and crew visted East Durham to shoot scenes.
When the Green Watch at Seaham fire station investigated why the production trailers had parked up at Seaham Hall car park, they ended up meeting the award-winning star.
Crew manager Adrian Emberson said: “We’d been at Dalton Park training on the pond and when the lads passed it, we thought ‘What’s that about?’ so we went to find out what was going on.
“I went round and saw a producer and said they were on lunch, but to come back later on, so we did.
“She took us round to see Brenda and when she told her we were there, she came out straight away.
“We had a chat and had our photo taken. She was a really nice lady.
“We did a bit of research before we went so we knew a bit more about her.”
The actress, who has also appeared in films Little Voice and Atonement, sat in the cab of the officers’ fire appliance and tried on their helmets for size during their meeting.
The programme makers were at the site as they shot scenes for an episode of the second four-part series of Vera to be screened next year.
