Sea mammal washed up on Seaham beach

A mammal which appears to have become tangled in a fishing net has been washed up on a beach.

Early morning dog walkers came across the porpoise or dolphin on Seaham Beach, to the north side of its harbour, today.

Among them was Richard Hughes, 59, who lives in nearby North Terrace, as he walked Australian cattle hound-cross Max.

He said: "It was about 8.30am when I went down, then I went back later to take some pictures.

"It must have been washed up over night.

"It wasn't there last night.

"I don't know what it is, because if it's a dolphin, its nose is missing or it's a bit short.

"I just saw it and didn't know what to make of it."
