The last reported sighting of Scott in the lay-by opposite the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill, in East Durham.
On the third anniversary of Scott’s disappearance, police turn to social media to appeal for information.
Cleveland Police’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts changed their crest to a picture of Scott for three hours on the day police believe he went missing.
The stress of Scott’s disappearance is believed to have sparked a stroke in Julie, who needed brain surgery and spent seven weeks in hospital. The same month, the Missing People organisation published another appeal for information in the Big Issue.
Police say they believe Scott may have come to harm but were keeping an open mind. They said he was in some debt prior to his disappearance and was known to the criminal fraternity.
Cleveland Police officers made a live national TV appeal for information of Scott’s whereabouts on BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow programme.
Four years to the month after Scott went missing police launch a review of the case in a bid to uncover new information. They search fields, tracks, and other rural areas surrounding the lay-by opposite the Jet garage.
Mum Julie talked about the “continuous struggle” of not knowing what happened to Scott and how his daughter Lucie often bursts into tears over his loss.
