A WOMAN seriously injured when her mobility scooter was in a collision with a van is in a stable condition, police said today.
The crash happened when the woman, believed to be in her 70s, was riding her scooter in Roker Baths Road.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital where her injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed.
One woman who lives nearby told the Echo she was shocked by the accident.
Police cordoned off Roker Baths Road for several hours after the accident, which happened at about 3.15pm on Friday, and diversions were put in place as investigations got under way.
Officers put out an appeal asking for anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.
